Art Collection

The art collection ranges from the 15th to the 21st century and features artists from Rembrandt to Chagall, Pechstein and Picasso to Lüpertz and Jankowski. It is an enjoyable and multifaceted collection to look at. It boasts exquisite still lifes and expressionist landscapes, village scenes by old masters and video productions about hunter-gatherers in the supermarket. The spectrum is wide, but thematic focal points do emerge: Many works revolve around the relationship between man and nature, religious and ethical questions of nutrition and allocation, and the role of people in society. Particularly notable gems in the collection include detailed oils by Pieter Breughel, the surrealist sculpture “Retrospective Bust of a Woman” by Salvador Dalí, as well as contemporary installations by Thomas Rentmeister, Silke Schwarz, Claire Pentecost, and Steiner & Lenzlinger.
