[don’t call me brotmuseum]
Get to know the museum anew!
With the redesign of the museum and the name change to "Museum Bread and Art - Forum World Nutrition" in 2019, we are signalling: the "Bread Museum", as some locals like to call it, is old news! It is still about bread and the contexts and associations with food and nutrition that emanate from it. However, we are also consciously looking to the future, addressing many socially relevant questions of today: What will we be eating in 2050? How will the world's food supply continue to change as a result of the climate crisis? Or: What role will binary gender roles play in agriculture? And are there any creative solutions to these issues? In addition to all these serious thoughts, the topic of food enjoyment is never neglected. Unique “feasts for the eyes” from the art collection (15th century to the present day) complement our exhibitions and the accompanying programs.
The reopening of the museum was soon followed by the coronavirus pandemic, which slowed down the momentum of our relaunch. More than four years have now passed and, despite an enthusiastic audience, we keep finding that there are many (Neu)Ulm residents who last visited the museum "sometime in their school days", perhaps 10, 20 or 30 years ago. And who are not aware that so much has happened in the historic Salzstadel since then.
With the plea [don't call me brotmuseum] and a winking eye, we want to finally change that! So, come to our events and be surprised by what you find and the charming ambience of the house. You can enjoy finger food in front of our art works, relax in the evening with an after-work meditation or participate in one of our many other brand-new activities. Learn about the beginnings of the museum, why the combination of bread and art is so special, and unique in the world.
All events are free of charge!
