„Vera Mercer: The Voracious Eye“

Für Expats und andere englischsprachige Gäste bietet das Museum Brot und Kunst regelmäßig Führungen in ihren Ausstellungen an.

On Sunday 8 November at 3 pm, the Museum Brot und Kunst will host a guided tour in English of the current special exhibition ‘Vera Mercer: The Voracious Eye’.
Vera Mercer (born in Berlin in 1936), a grande dame of photography, can look back on an extensive body of work. After training as a dancer, she married the future Eat Art artist Daniel Spoerri in 1958 and moved with him to Paris. There, she immersed herself in the artistic avant-garde and began taking photographs.
Since the 2000s, she has been composing elaborate still lifes. She draws on motifs from Old Master painting, breathing new life into them. Lighting plays a central role: exotic objects, flowers, fruit and, time and again, dead animals appear in an exquisite interplay of colours.
From 2010 onwards, Mercer developed a new series of works: portraits paired with still lifes. The objects become characteristics of the subjects and interact with them in enigmatic ways.
In her guided tour of the exhibition, art educator Heidrun Heil explores works from the aforementioned series and highlights the connections between them.
